Feasts and Fandoms
and a name change because I'm indecisive like that
Less than two months in and I’m already changing the newsletter name! From the beginning I’ve been calling it “Reads and Feeds” in my head, but that didn’t seem catchy or cool enough, so I went with “Dining with Dragons” instead. However I never changed the name of the folder where I keep my drafts, so I never quite stopped thinking of this newsletter as “Reads and Feeds” and it just feels better in my brain so… welcome to Reads and Feeds! I’m so happy to have you all here!!

What I’m reading
Fused (Legacy of Magic, Book 6), Wanted (Legacy of Magic, Book 7), Cursed (Legacy of Magic, Book 8), and the Legacy of Magic Short Story Collection by Lindsay Buroker
This wraps up the Legacy of Magic series! Fused (Book 6) was the last book of the main storyline, but Wanted and Cursed wrap up a few leftover issues (and are great additions to the series). Overall I loved this series. The characters are loveable and relatable, and there’s plenty of action that keeps the story going.
I’m looking forward to her Tracking Trouble series, that continues on in this world with a new set of main characters (and many of the characters we already know!), but I’m forcing myself to take a break (and possibly wait for her to release more of the series) before binging the rest of her books.
Geekerella: A Fangirl Fairy Tale (Once Upon A Con Book 1) and The Princess and the Fangirl (Once Upon A Con Book 2) by Ashley Poston
I adored these books so much. If you’ve been here from the beginning (a whole… seven weeks ago), you’ll remember that I read Ashley Poston’s Seven Year Slip and loved it. Her Once Upon a Con series is even more my jam - I will absolutely read any and all of these books that she writes! These are fairytale retellings that follow the actors starring in the reboot of a much-loved sci-fi series, and the fan base that adores (and deplores) them. They’re cute and sweet and utterly geeky. I’ve got the third book on hold at the library, so hopefully that will be coming in soon!
Eight Dates: Essential Conversations for a Lifetime of Love by John Gottman and Julie Schwartz Gottman
I quite enjoyed this book. It’s all about conversations to have with your partner, whether you’re in a brand new relationship or have been together for ages. The goal is connection, better communication, and strengthening your bond so your relationship can thrive for years to come. The book is formatted into eight dates that you’re supposed to go on with your partner, but even if, ahem, you have young children and that seems like an impossibility right now, there’s still a ton of great advice.
What we’re eating
Marcona almonds. This is a total splurge because Marcona almonds are pricey! But I love them so much. I have to hide them from the toddler because she also loves them. We’ve been enjoying the Matiz brand lately.
Sardine salad “sushi”. This is on repeat around here, because it’s easy, healthy, tasty, and I always have all the ingredients on hand.
Our belated Lunar New Year feast! Egg rolls and curry and thịt kho and gỏi. The toddler tried durian for the first time and is obsessed, and now she keeps asking for sầu riêng. We have leftover food for daaaaays.
That’s all for this week! What have you been eating and reading lately? Reply to this email or let me know in the comments - I’m always looking for food inspiration and books to add to my TBR!

Two months is just the right time for a name change! Also this reminds me how much I want to try making one of those "sushi bakes"...
